Employment
Hello and welcome to the employment page!
Im always looking for dedicated workers to expand my company!
Below will include information on employment opportunities, what to expect, rates etc.
How to apply?
Send me a text or call at 959-951-2428!

General Information
Starting Rate: 25$/hr
My starting rate is 25/hr, seem high? Yes and no. I believe 25/hr should be the minimum wage especially in this economy. I also pay this higher rate to accommodate workers for a schedule that at times can seem random.

Experienced and Dedicated Landscapers and Gardeners: 30$/hr+
I'm looking for a dedicated and experienced gardener or landscaper that wants full time work. At least 2 years experience required.

Overtime pay:
Starts at 40hrs and is 1.5x your rate

Scheduling:
Work is typically scheduled through text based on your availability.
Usually, the day before as late as 11pm. If your available there's work.
Sometimes if your availability is transient or day to day text me in the early AM and I'll let you know if I could use a hand.
If you are more experienced, I may assign you a property to maintain. You'd then work the hours available.
Sometimes Ill assign you to another manager such as Kevin, Kaleb or Jake. Youd then work with them.

Scope of Work:
Winter: 0-20 hours a week
Brush removal, pruning, stonework, etc
Less calls, less hours, generally the whole crew is part time, expect weeks or 1-3 days of work, occasional full weeks, occasional no work

Spring: 20-40+ hours a week
Cleanup, weeding, planting, brush removal, sod removal, mulching, etc
The busiest time of year, lots of calls, cleanups, consultations, projects etc, Long hours are appreciated!!!!!!
Lots of hours for new/inexperienced workers

Summer: 10-40+ hours a week
Cleanup, weeding, planting, trimming, stonework, etc.
Abundant tedious/easy maintenance days with larger projects in between, skilled workers are busy but less work for trainees

Fall: 20-40+ hours a week
Planting, stonework, fall cleanup, sod removal, mulching, etc.
2nd Busiest time of year, big fall planting projects, maintenance of properties, cleanups, etc
lots of work for everyone

I do not offer healthcare, 401k etc (not yet at least)

1099 Sub-contractor
You will be set up as a 1099 subcontractor. I do not take out any taxes. You will handle your own tax etc.

Payment:
By check at the end of each work week.
Ill throw in a few extra if you did great that week.
Total Hours at the end of the week. Sometimes we will be working together. Other times Ill leave it on my porch.
Example of a work week:
9/28
900-400 7 hours
10/1
815-345 6.5
10/2
915-445 7.5
10/3
1000-430 6.5
Total Hours: 27.5
This Total Hours number is then multiped by your rate. I then write the check out for you.
Please total of your hours on your own. I (Jim) am the only one who can write checks (so far), if we aren't working together the last day of your work week, I'll write a check the last day I see you or leave the check on the porch. That could then go down 2 different ways:
1. Check is paid for all hours prior to the day you picked up the check. So the hours worked the day you picked up the check will go into the following week.
2. Check is paid for all hours including the day of check pickup, the hours for that day of pickup will be projected the day before, so if you worked 8 hours that day and projected 8 great. Sometimes the projected hours worked will be less or more, this amount will be adjusted into the following weeks check. So if you worked 7 hours that day Id take an hour off the following week or if you worked 9, Id add an hour the following week.
--------I only do all the above because I may not be home at the time of check pickup.

Time off:
If you need to take a vacation, sick time, doctors appointments etc. I'm accommodating when it comes to these things. Just let me know in advance for things you can control. At least a few days.

Paid Breaks, Paid Lunches, Paid Car rides to job (starting when you leave and till you get home, note time or hours worked may change due to waiting periods, standby, long drives, simplification of total hours worked such as rounding up or down, general performance, etc.)

Expectations:
I may not be on the property but that doesn't mean you can fart around and get paid. I know the approximate time it takes to do things and if I see that less work was done than anticipated I will let you know. Ill also let you know if you've exceeded expectations and that will be reflected in payment. I'm generally not a hardass or slavedriver. I want my workers to work at their own pace, but I also need to balance that with client expectations, timetables etc. Also note that my clients have eyes and some like to watch the work being done.
Details:
I provide both high pay and amenities because I need you to give it your all and work with purpose. Get it done, efficiently and correctly. The work will be alot of detail work. ASK ME QUESTIONS ABOUT EVERYTHING I will respond. I want and need you to learn. I need you to try and do your best to do more as then I can trust you to not only do jobs the way I do it so I can trust that I can send you to a property after a walkaround and you would know what needs to be done.
25$ or 30$ is a starting rate for me. As long as your proactive and willing to work there is work. For now, the service I offer is relatively rare in the region. Especially at the price I provide, and people are willing to pay! So why not pay for amazing work that costs less long-term, is incredibly biodiverse and environmentally friendly. If you work with me you are working for a company absolutely dedicated to the restoring native habitat and moving away from toxic lawns, mosquito spraying etc.

Work Attire:
Can change depending on season, be sure to have:
Work pants, Work shirt (any T or long sleeve as long as you don't mind it getting beaten up)
Belt
Shorts aren't recommended due to abundant kneeling, low growth, thorns, etc
Work shoes- sometimes steel toe but we don't do a lot of that sort of work. Generally light duty shoes that are durable. I sometimes wear crocs if my job is mostly weeding, deadheading or trimming.
Winter- ski pants, abundant layers, multiple socks etc
Rain -ski pants, rain gear, muck boots or waterproof work boot

Some of the more detailed work involves selective weeding, this is done throughout the year and it can be challenging at first. But once you learn what needs to be pulled, such as mugwort. I expect and want you to proactively get it so it won't become a problem down the road.

IMPORTANT
Your performance determines whether or not you have a job, I'm accommodating to less experienced workers as I am training yall to be better. I find the work is easy if you commit to it.
Weeding- the most tedious part and a major part of the job. If you cant weed effectively and there are others who are more capable at it. Ill give them the hours, its the logical way to do it and I am not doing it to play favorites etc. Eventually you'll get good at it.
There are certain times of year where we will come across brute/labor work that is more heavy duty and easier to master or more common to the trade such as weed wacking, hedge trimming, bulk invasive removal, mulching, leaf cleanup, planting, sod removal, wheel barreling (moving heavy material via wheel barrow to another location on property), and a huge number of things needing less finesse/minor detail work.
Initiative! Ask first! We like the enthusiasm but some days we need only certain or particular jobs done. This can be due to client budget constraints, time of year or just not the day we are doing that.
More or less plant identification is a core part of the job. I need you to learn, Its fun and every native plant is great and enjoyable. I want you to be excited and passionate. I want a client to be able to go up to you and ask what a plant is or what is being done.
One day I'd like to trust clients to you to get work done for them and the only involvement I want to have is checkups, facilitation of payment and expertise. This way you don't have to deal with the gnitty gritty office work until you are ready to do so. Then if you find that you truly enjoy this line of work I can help, get you started on your own journey as a native plant landscape provider. Since I started it's been amazing! I can live relatively comfortably, and I enjoy what I do. Sometimes it's a lot but that's why I'm looking for more people to spread the work around and get paid a somewhat comfortable rate in this horribly expensive economy.

What I do:
Some days you may not see me and wonder what I'm up to.
On those days I may be cleaning up/weeding small-large gardens, consulting, getting other workers set with their tasks and setting up jobs for later in the week. I don't do as much heavy labor as I used to but overall, I work longer hours and have more detailed or office related tasks. My typical day goes from 630-730 or later. In the summer I'll work well into the evening usually until sunset. It's not that I don't want to do the bulk removal of sod, weeding etc. as I love and enjoy that work but I'm one of the few on the crew that are able to set up future jobs and keep everything running smoothly.
